It has been rumbling for a long time, but now Google has brought its renewed Google WiFi to the US, which is available in all major retail stores. Everybody remembers Google WiFi as a WiFi solution for a mesh network that offers faster internet speed with a wider coverage area, which was replaced by Nest WiFi a few years later. With the change of Google WiFi to Nest WiFi, many people got disappointed because they really liked the original Google WiFi. After all, there were LAN ports on the individual WiFi pucks – and everyone could work as a router or mesh point. The compatible Nest WiFi is different – a router and separate access points without LAN, but with the Google Assistant. It was great fun, and now it seems that the same fun is going to return.
Faithful in the purpose of improving the range of Wi-Fi you have at home, Google has renewed its Mesh system. The model has already been launched in the US and will cost a person $100, which is not that much considering what he/she is getting in return.
Google WiFi Design
When it comes to design, don’t expect changes. You will see a similar design and features in this product, as the company has kept 802.11 a / b / g / n / AC dual-band Wi-Fi in the device. Each mesh device offers coverage of around 450 square meters, which is quite spectacular. Then, there is a low-power Bluetooth on the device along with the support for WPA3 encryption. The Google WiFi router supports Wi-Fi 5 (ac) where you can expect speeds up to 1,200 Mbps with the ability to connect up to 100 devices to the mesh Wi-Fi system.
What’s inside the device?
Each Google WiFi device comes with a couple of Ethernet ports, 512 MB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. The company has used 49% recycled plastic in the construction of this device, which shows the company’s seriousness about global warming. The device has many top features and a few drawbacks, which is the story with every tech gadget.
The updated Google WiFi comes with a 15W barrel charger, so you are not going to find a USB-C. It now also has a new Google logo and is made of recycled plastic to make it more environmentally friendly.
Unable to use Google Wi-Fi as a speaker with Google Assistant
This device can’t be used as a speaker with Google Assistant, a feature that was present in Google Nest WiFi, but there is nothing to worry about, as there will be a way around for this shortcoming that you will get in the months to come.
In addition, Google also announced a number of other feature updates for both Google WiFi and Nest WiFi. This includes the ability to notify users via the Home app on a smartphone whenever a new device joins their network. Google also promises to reduce network latency and improve network performance to reduce congestion when multiple devices access it as part of an update.
